Apprenticeship with added value: Condition Monitoring

The aim of condition monitoring in manufacturing is, for example, to determine vibrations in the turning process in order to draw conclusions about the quality of the surface, and to do this comparatively early, already during production. The prerequisite for this is first-class, high-precision sensor technology such as that from ifm. ifm, a world-renowned supplier of sensor technology and Industry 4.0 solutions, is a technology partner of the Siegen Smart Demonstration Factory SDFS at the Buschhütten Campus, which successfully networks under one roof with the Achenbach Buschhütten Smart Learning Factory SLAB.

For training purposes, ifm was also happy to provide the SLAB with both its sensors and its IoT platform ,moneo', with which a conventional lathe was equipped. This case of condition monitoring is intended to arouse the apprentices' interest in modern production technology right at the beginning of their training. Behind this is the decision of the Achenbach management and personnel management to introduce the apprentices step by step to the world of digital transformation and to create enthusiasm for what Peter Burggräf calls New Industry.
