We recently carried out a study to increase productivity on a thin strip rolling mill for copper including the improvement of the rolling process as well as the optimization of non-productive times. For this purpose, rolling data for 20 pass schedules were initially collected for 2 months using the Achenbach OPTILINK® platform as well as camera recordings and interviews with plant operators. As a result, it became clear that specific measures and the retrofitting of essential components such as new reel gears, the reduction of oil application and a fully automated coil transport could lead to an increase in productivity on the rolling mill of approx. 30%.
